Thor: Ragnarok
Tonight I saw Thor: Ragnarok at the Cinerama in downtown Seattle. It was a lot of fun to see on the big screen. Somehow the comic sensibility that director Taika Waititi brought to movies like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows wasn't flattened by Hollywood or the process of making an effects-laden product, though I didn't find all of the jokes as funny as some people in the audience did — like the lady a few seats over who laughed at everything as if she were high. My favorite joke was the part about the S-word. And I loved the idea of wormholes being used for trash disposal. Of course! Where I found myself uncomfortable was when semi-automatic [Earth] weapons once again saved the day, but aside from that, under the silliness and willingness to do whatever, this movie had a more clever plot than a lot of other superhero movies I have mostly forgotten.
