Berlioz Requiem
Rounding out my music-filled week in an epic way, tonight I had the rare opportunity to hear Berlioz' Requiem performed by the Seattle Symphony... and lots of other people. We're talking six tympanists plus a percussionist, a full chorus, a tenor, and brass choirs in four separate balcony locations. Though I know a lot of other Berlioz, I didn't know this piece coming into it. It was pretty freaking huge, and though I arrived fully expecting a ridiculous spectacle I ended up enjoying the music as well. It was full of interest. I can't imagine it being as entertaining in a recording, and I'll probably never get the chance to hear it live again, so I'm glad I went.
